A a Apple: Rose Isabella Stark's Alphabet - Victorian Watercolour ABC - Rose Isabella Stark

A a Apple presents Rose Isabella Stark's alphabet, reproducing her watercolour illustrations and accompanying verses for each letter, together with a biographical note on Stark (1848-1918). Published by Book Club Associates in 1979, copyright Elizabeth M. Bucknill. The sample opening shown pairs Bee, Blossom and Bough with Cow, each illustrated in colour with short accompanying rhymes on cream paper.

The hardback is bound in dark blue cloth with the title and author lettered in gilt down the spine. The boards are plain cloth, clean of any printed design, with some light surface marking and a small area of wear at the head of the spine where the cloth has lifted slightly. A pale blue endpaper carries a small printed illustration of two mice in winter dress. The text block appears square and the printed pages photographed are clear and bright.
