Part of the County History Series, this hardback traces the county's story from early times, with the text illustrated with maps and photographic plates. The front cover carries a colour photograph of Lichfield Cathedral seen from the Minster Pool.

The dust jacket shows notable wear, with a tear and loss at the top corner of the front panel and further creasing and rubbing along the edges. The price label on the inner flap shows 21s. net altered to 25s. net. The text block edges are toned, and the spine panel shows some discolouration. Inside, the copyright page is clean and legible, and the sample page shown has cream-toned paper with clear black print and a two-colour map. The book has a slight lean to the boards, visible from the spine view.
