Dombey and Son - Charles Dickens
Dombey and Son by Charles Dickens, published by George Newnes Limited as part of a uniform set of novels, this lot comprising 2 volumes, numbered 1 and 2 on the spines with no gap in the sequence. Each volume carries illustrations by Hablot K. Browne ("Phiz"), with a frontispiece and vignette on the title page captioned Kenilworth, and further illustrations appearing within the text.
The two spines are bound to match, in dark green cloth with gilt lettering and a small gilt "CD" device, and sit level against one another, though the head of volume 1's spine shows a chip and some wear not matched on volume 2. The covers are blind-stamped with a matching decorative panel design on front and back of both books, and both show light surface marking and faint staining to the cloth. The top edges of the textblocks have scattered light foxing, more noticeable on volume 1. Corners are lightly bumped on both volumes.
Set of 2 volumes.
