Margaret Ogilvy - J. M. Barrie

Margaret Ogilvy by J. M. Barrie, published by Hodder and Stoughton in 1897. This copy is the second edition, completing the twentieth thousand, as stated on the title page. The book carries a dedication to the memory of the author's sister, Jane Ann.

The binding is dark cloth, with the spine lettered in gilt reading "Margaret Ogilvy, By Her Son, J. M. Barrie" within a ruled border. The front and rear boards are plain cloth, showing scuffing, rubbing and a degree of surface fading and marking, with wear most visible at the corners and spine ends. The spine cloth shows some speckling and discolouration at the head.

Internally, the title page is printed in red and black, with the publisher's details and date clearly shown. The text block edges are gilt, now toned and uneven in places. The paper is lightly age-toned, consistent with a book of this date, and the text appears clear on the sampled page.
