Poems (Everyman's Library 867, Eric Ravilious design, dust jacket) - John Donne
Poems by John Donne, edited by Hugh I'Anson Fausset, published by J. M. Dent & Sons in London and E. P. Dutton in New York. First published in this edition in 1931, this is the Everyman's Library edition, number 867, printed at the Temple Press, Letchworth, and decorated by Eric Ravilious. Ravilious's famous knotted design appears on the dust jacket and title page, with his decorated endpapers inside.
The book is complete with its original green Everyman's dust jacket, which is in good condition with only light wear. These early jackets are fragile and are often missing, so a jacketed copy is harder to find. Beneath it the book is bound in green cloth with a printed paper label to the front cover and matching label to the spine.
A pasted bookplate on the front pastedown reads 'Ex-Libris Gwyneth Saunders March 26th 1938' with 'from Maisie' added beneath in ink.
The spine shows some wear and a small crack near the head on the rear panel. Corners are rubbed, with a touch of wear at the foot of the spine. The text block edges are lightly toned. Internally the paper is cream-coloured, with clear, legible print, and the volume is securely bound.
