The Giddy Ox - Harvey Preen

The Giddy Ox by Harvey Preen, subtitled "The Story of a Family Holiday", published by H. J. Cook in 1900. This hardback copy has a dark green cloth cover, with the title and author lettered in white on the front board and spine, and the publisher's name and date also shown on the spine.

The front cover shows notable marking and staining, with a scuff or scratch visible near the top edge, and general discolouration across the board. The spine and rear board show further soiling and surface wear. The title page carries a handwritten inscription reading "Page 129 Dudley Port", and the leaf itself is heavily browned and foxed. The copyright page confirms printing by H. S. Nichols Ltd, 3 Soho Square. Internal pages show tanning and spotting, with one gathering showing a tear along the inner margin near the contents page. An illustrated plate and text page are present further into the book, with the paper there appearing lighter and less affected.
