An History of Birmingham - W. Hutton
An History of Birmingham by W. Hutton, published in Birmingham by Knott and Lloyd and sold also by R. Baldwin and L.B. Seeley of London, 1806. This is the third edition, with considerable additions and new engravings of the public buildings. The title page sets out the full contents, covering the town's name, situation, trade, government, places of worship, lords of the manor, and surrounding districts, with a list of plates including views of chapels, churches, and the canal.
The leather binding is heavily worn, with extensive surface loss and scuffing across both covers revealing the lighter boards beneath. The spine shows cracking and chipping, with a small loss at the foot. Corners are worn and bumped. The front free endpaper carries a handwritten owner inscription dated August 1845. The title page and following leaves show tearing, loss to the fore edge margins, and old repairs, with the paper tanned and marked with scattered foxing and staining.
