Beeton's New Dictionary of Every-Day Gardening
Beeton's New Dictionary of Every-Day Gardening, published by Ward, Lock & Co., Limited in London. Described on the title page as an entirely new edition, completely re-written, thoroughly revised, and considerably extended, with 550 illustrations constituting a popular cyclopaedia of horticulture, floriculture and pomology, with a monthly calendar of garden work added.
The book is bound in red cloth with a gilt rose device on the front board and gilt lettering to the spine, which also carries a small gilt floral motif. The spine cloth is frayed and worn at both head and tail, with loss exposing the cords beneath. The front and rear boards are rubbed and marked, with staining and spotting visible across the cloth. The title page shows a brown spot near the top. Internally the paper is aged and shows scattered spotting, with sample pages including text and line illustrations of garden tools and plants, plus a closing page bearing the publisher's imprint.
