A hardback collection of butterfly illustrations by Gordon Beningfield, with accompanying sketches and short notes on each subject. The cover shows a painted study of a butterfly among bramble flowers and leaves, with a dandelion clock illustration on the rear board. Pictures are credited to Gordon Beningfield on the copyright page.

The book is bound in deep purple boards with gilt-style lettering to the spine, which reads Beningfield's Butterflies and Chatto & Windus. The sample interior opening shows cream paper with a colour plate of chalkhill blue butterflies facing a page of pencil sketches and accompanying text, both clean and well printed.

Externally the boards show light rubbing and a few faint marks, with the spine ends slightly worn at the head and tail. The corners show minor bumping. Overall the book presents well for its age.
