Daily Express Children's Annual
Daily Express Children's Annual, published by the Daily Express in 1934. This is a hardback pop-up annual, with coloured illustrations that rise into model form when the pages are opened, including a St George and dragon scene and a gondola scene set against a townscape.
The front board carries a bold illustrated design in yellow, blue, red and green, with toy soldiers and figures along the base. The spine is worn, with chipping and loss to the covering material and some splitting visible along its length. The rear board shows a dragon and knight illustration with a little surface wear at the corners.
Inside, the paper shows some light foxing, and one of the pop-up elements (the knight on horseback) has a small area of paper loss and a visible repair with tape. The front endpaper carries a handwritten inscription reading "To Dorothy xxxx". A tented model piece also shows some splitting along its folds.
