A hardback in laminated pictorial boards, with the front cover showing a photograph of a mill chimney and brick factory building, and the back cover showing a canal-side industrial scene with a chimney and old warehouse. Jacket photographs are credited to Frank Rodgers. The text includes black and white photographs illustrating industrial buildings, such as a tide-mill at Pembroke.

The covers are worn, with marking and a small stain visible on the front, and rubbing to the spine ends and corners. The spine panel has retained its black and gilt lettering, though with some creasing. The copyright page shows library-style labelling, a handwritten accession note, and a date stamp. There is a small paper label affixed inside the front board.
