French Lyrics - George Saintsbury
French Lyrics, selected and annotated by George Saintsbury, with illustrations by A. Gérardin, published by Philip Lee Warner in 1910. The binding is noted as adapted from a design by Padeloup, 1741.
The cover is blue cloth with a gilt decorative border framing a central panel reading "French Lyrics", with gilt rules and ornamental corner motifs. The spine is gilt-lettered with the title, author and illustrator's name against a brown ground, with gilt decoration at head and tail.
Internally, the title page confirms the selection by Saintsbury and illustrations by Gérardin, with a bibliographical note recording earlier publication by Kegan Paul in 1890 and this reset edition of 1910. Poems are printed with French text and short introductory notes. A loose Medici Society book mark is present, laid in rather than bound.
Wear includes rubbing to the spine ends and corners, with some fraying at the head of the spine, light surface marks to the covers, and foxing to the page edges. The text block otherwise appears sound.
