Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, published by Penguin Books. This edition was first published in Penguin Books in 1953 and reprinted in 1954, the novel itself having first appeared in 1847.

This is the classic orange-banded Penguin fiction paperback, with the cream Penguin Books roundel to the top of the cover, the title and author on a cream panel, and the Penguin logo with "Complete" and "Unabridged" to the lower cover. The back cover carries a biographical note on the Brontë sisters alongside a reproduction of Branwell Brontë's portrait of Anne, Emily and Charlotte.

The covers show heavier foxing and discolouration, particularly to the cream central panel, along with wear and some splitting to the spine and creasing at the head. The page edges have browned with age, and the spine tape shows further cracking at the top. The text block inside appears clear on the pages shown, with the opening dedication to W. M. Thackeray and preface visible on the early leaves.
