Loves and Deaths - Peter Bayley
Loves and Deaths, selected and introduced by Peter Bayley, published by Oxford University Press. This paperback anthology brings together short stories by nineteenth-century novelists, from Scott to Hardy, including Dickens's "The Signal-Man". The copyright page confirms it was first published in 1972 and reprinted in 1973 and 1974.
The cover has a cream background with a central red panel bordered in black. There is noticeable wear to the cover, including staining and discolouration on the front and back, with a small blue ink mark near the spine edge on the front. The corners show creasing and slight fraying, particularly at the top edge. The spine retains its printed text but shows some rubbing.
Inside, the paper is lightly toned with occasional faint marks, as seen on the sample page shown, which is clear and readable.
