This is a substantial paperback manual, laid out in numbered chapters and sections covering topics such as typing and revising, editing and proofing tools, newspaper-style columns and printing, with numerous illustrative diagrams and step-by-step instructions throughout its contents pages.

The front cover shows a photographic image of a fountain pen resting on torn paper, with the title in large black type. The rear cover carries a keyboard shortcuts reference chart for Windows and Macintosh. The spine is plain white with black text and shows some light creasing.

The copyright page appears faintly show-through from the reverse side, giving it a slightly ghosted appearance. Page edges and paper are pale cream in tone. Some scattered marks are visible on the front cover surface.
