Old and New Birmingham - Robert K. Dent
This set comprises two volumes of Old and New Birmingham by Robert K Dent, published by EP Publishing of East Ardsley, Wakefield. Volume I covers the period from earliest times to 1760, with a new introduction by Dorothy H McCulla, dated 1972, and Volume III covers 1832 to 1880, dated 1973. Both are reprints of the original work, which was first issued in weekly numbers between 1878 and 1880. Each volume carries a cover illustration of a large historic building, printed in orange tones, and both are in dust jackets.
The two spines sit together neatly and show a close match in design, with the same illustration and lettering style on each. There is some variation in the fading of the jackets, with one running from a deeper orange to pale yellow and the other showing a similar but slightly less pronounced gradient.
The jackets show general wear including rubbing, a small tear to one spine head, and a chip to a corner. The boards show library stamps, shelf marks, and some staining to the endpapers and title pages, with one page showing an old damaged label area.
Set of 2 volumes.
