Our Own Country
Our Own Country, published by Cassell and Company, Limited. This lot comprises 6 volumes, sold together as a set. The title pages visible show publication dates of 1895, 1896, and 1894, and the imprint reads "London, Paris & Melbourne" throughout the run. No volume numbers appear on the spines or title pages, so continuity across the set cannot be confirmed.
The bindings are uniformly decorated in blue cloth with blackwork patterning and gilt lettering reading "Our Own Country" on each spine, with a gilt rose motif lower down. Viewed together, the spines present a consistent design, though there is some variation in tone across the run, with a couple of volumes appearing slightly lighter or more faded than their neighbours.
Each volume carries a decorative frontispiece illustration facing its title page, depicting buildings and landscape scenes in black and white.
Wear is visible at the spine ends, with fraying and loss of cloth at the head and tail of several volumes, and some splitting at the front hinge of at least one volume. Corners show rubbing and wear. Page edges are tanned.
Set of 6 volumes.
