The Amateur's Flower Garden - Shirley Hibberd

The Amateur's Flower Garden by Shirley Hibberd, published by Groombridge and Sons, 1884. This is described as a new edition, revised and enlarged, illustrated with coloured plates of garden flowers including a dahlia, fuchsia and picotee. Printed by Simson and Co. of Hertford.

The cloth boards are grey with a green floral design and gilt lettering to the front, with matching decoration and the author's name in gilt on the spine. The spine cloth has darkened to a tan/gold tone and shows wear to the head and tail. Corners and edges are rubbed, with some fraying visible along the front board edge.

Internally, the title page and early leaves show scattered foxing and spotting. The coloured plates remain bright. A loose advertising slip for Sanitas Powder, aimed at gardeners dealing with slugs, is present within the book.
