The Babes in the Wood

The Babes in the Wood, published by Blackie, illustrated by Frank Adams. A hardback retelling of the traditional tale, with colour plates and decorative line drawings set alongside verse text throughout the sample pages shown, including a final image of a prison door marked "The End".

The front board carries a colour illustration of a boy and girl with a rabbit, with the title lettered in black on a yellow panel above. The cloth spine shows wear and fraying, particularly at the head and tail, with visible discolouration and loss to the covering material. The corners and edges of the boards are worn and bumped, with cracking and rubbing to the surface of the front board. The rear board is plain and shows general soiling and staining.

Internally, the paper has some foxing and staining, notably around the gutter of the endpapers, with a name and date inscription present. The colour plates remain bright.

Condition graded Acceptable, consistent with the wear described above.
