The Blue Book of Gardening, dated 1939 on the title page, is a seed and gardening catalogue issued by Carters Tested Seeds. The contents page lists sections on flowers, lawns, vegetables, tools and requisites, a diary of the garden, and a general index. The title page carries the Carters imprint.

The covers are cloth-bound in a dark grey-green, with the title blind-stamped and partly rubbed on the front board, and a plain cloth spine showing wear along the edges. Internally the pages are aged and browned, with scattered foxing and staining marks visible on several leaves.

One page of postal information is torn, with a section detached and loose rather than fully missing. The book includes a list of Awards for 1938 won by Carters, and illustrated pages showing their seed-growing and testing operations, along with colour plates of sweet peas. Overall wear is consistent with heavy handling and age.
