The Castle Explorer's Guide by Frank Bottomley, a reference guide to castles of the British Isles, arranged as a glossary followed by a gazetteer of notable sites in England, Scotland and Wales. The cover illustration shows a medieval siege scene with archers, a cannon and a castle under attack.

The hardback covers show heavy foxing and spotting across the front, back and spine, with soiling and a darkened patch near the top of the back cover. The spine has a worn area at the base with tape repair and a handwritten shelf mark. Corners show wear and rubbing. The title page carries a dedication and a small illustration of Micklegate Bar, York. Internal pages seen are cream in tone with black and white line illustrations and text, showing light spotting consistent with the covers.
