The Covered Garden by Kenneth Lemmon, published by Museum Press Limited in 1962, with a foreword by the Duke of Devonshire. This hardback traces the history of greenhouses, orangeries and glasshouses, covering early heating methods, glass construction and the gardening practices associated with them.

The book is bound in red cloth with the title and author gilt-lettered on the spine, along with a small gilt illustration of a classical building above the publisher's name. The boards are plain and unadorned.

Internally, the pages are cream-coloured with some light spotting and age marks visible on the title page and text pages. There are library stamps from Pendrell Hall College of Residential Adult Education on the title page and the front free endpaper, with a handwritten reference number alongside one stamp. The text is clear and well printed throughout the sampled pages.
