Penguin Classics edition of The Devils by Dostoyevsky, translated by David Magarshack, published by Penguin Books. The cover shows a close-up detail from a painted portrait, with the Penguin Classics logo and title above. The ISBN 014 044.035 6 is printed on the spine.

The copyright page confirms this translation was first published in 1953 and reprinted a number of times, including with the appendix "Stavrogin's Confession" added in 1971, with further reprints listed through to 1979. The contents page lists the Translator's Introduction and the novel's parts and chapters.

In terms of physical condition, the cover shows rubbing and wear to the edges and spine, with a crease and small loss at the top of the spine. The front cover has some scuffing and a mark at the top. The page edges are tanned with age, consistent with the paper tone visible on the open pages, and there is some darkening towards the edges of those leaves.
