The Fifth Book of Pilgrimages to Old Homes - Fletcher Moss
The Fifth Book of Pilgrimages to Old Homes by Fletcher Moss, published by the author from his home, The Old Parsonage, Didsbury, in June 1910. The title page notes Moss as a Justice of the Peace for the County Palatine of Lancaster, an Alderman of the City of Manchester, and President of the Lancashire and Cheshire Antiquarian Society. The book contains 212 pictures, with a photographic plate visible in the sample opening alongside printed text on the estate history of Clayton Hall.
The cloth cover is heavily marked and discoloured, with dark staining spreading across the front, back and spine, and wear to the corners and spine ends. The gilt title lettering and the illustration of "Belted Will" on the front board remain legible. The spine cloth shows rubbing and a small loss at the foot. Internally, the endpapers show noticeable foxing and staining, particularly to the upper corner of the front endpaper.
