The Fox at the Manger - 1963 First UK Edition, Dust Jacket, Bewick Engravings - P. L. Travers
The Fox at the Manger by P. L. Travers, published by Collins, London, first published in Great Britain in 1963. The book features wood engravings by Thomas Bewick, reproduced with the cooperation of the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Bewick Press, London, illustrating a Christmas tale told in prose and verse.
The dustwrapper is brown with pale green lettering to the front and a Bewick engraving of a fox beneath a hedgerow. The spine carries the title, author and Collins imprint in matching lettering. The wrapper shows a tear at the top edge and some discolouration and staining to the rear panel.
Internally the pages are cream with the text printed in black and illustrations in black and a rust orange tone. A pencil note reading 'WN 10/63 10/6' appears on one of the early leaves. Some light spotting is visible on the page bearing the swan engraving.
