The Insolent Breed by Borden Deal, published in hardback by Hutchinson. The spine carries the title on a blue label with the publisher's device beneath, and the front cover bears a gilt illustration of a violin scroll and pegbox with a hand gripping the neck, repeated in line form on the title page.

The blue cloth boards show general wear, with a small area of loss to the covering at the bottom corner of the front cover and light rubbing to the extremities and spine ends. The spine remains legible with the gilt lettering clear. The front free endpaper and facing page show scattered foxing and a couple of small brown marks. The text block edges appear age-toned. Internally, the sample page shown has clean, legible print on cream paper typical of its age, with no tears or loss visible.
