The Lost Villages of Britain - Richard Muir
The Lost Villages of Britain by Richard Muir, published in 1982 by Book Club Associates in arrangement with Michael Joseph Limited. A hardback illustrated study of deserted and shrunken villages across Britain, with chapters covering medieval settlement, monastic clearances, the sheep enclosures, the Highlands, Ireland, and the methods used to trace lost sites. The book was filmset in Great Britain by BAS Printers Limited and printed and bound in Singapore.
The cover shows a colour photograph of ruined castle towers rising above a field of poppies, with the title and author's name in white lettering. The spine carries the same photograph and text. The rear cover features a further landscape photograph above a block of critical quotes for an earlier Muir title.
Internally the pages are clean and legible, with black and white photographs and reproduction drawings illustrating the text. The author photograph and biography appear opposite the frontispiece image. Some light wear is visible to the cover edges consistent with age.
