The Mired Horse - Elizabeth D'Oyley
The Mired Horse by Elizabeth D'Oyley, published by Michael Joseph Ltd, London, in 1951. This historical novel is set in the Tudor period, focusing on the Duke of Norfolk and the young Mary, Queen of Scots during the early years of her imprisonment in England.
The hardback retains its illustrated dust wrapper, with artwork by Peter Curl depicting a Tudor lady in a ruff and a corridor scene. The wrapper shows notable wear, with tears and losses at the spine ends and corners, and chipping along the top edge. The spine panel remains legible with the title and author's name intact.
Internally, the text block appears clean on the pages viewed, with cream-toned paper. A newspaper clipping and a handwritten note have been tipped in to the front endpaper. The page edges show some foxing and unevenness, with a few pages appearing slightly proud of the others at the fore-edge.
