The Navy in the English Civil War - J. R. Powell
The Navy in the English Civil War by J. R. Powell, published by Archon Books (The Shoe String Press), with an introduction by C. V. Wedgwood. The book examines the role of the fleet during the English Civil War, with chapters covering the fleet's alliance with Parliament and its operations through the 1640s, including a map of fleet stations and a photographic plate of Sir William Penn.
The cover boards are a plain buff cloth with blue lettering to the front and spine, showing heavy staining and discolouration across the front panel, with a reddish mark visible on the lower right. The spine ends and corners are worn and bumped, with some loss of material at the head and tail of the spine. The price of $8.50 is printed on the front flap of the dust jacket, which itself shows soiling and wear at the edges.
Internally, the table of contents and text pages appear clean, with the map and plate reproduced clearly.
