The Royal Ballet: the first 50 years - Alexander Bland
The Royal Ballet: the first 50 years by Alexander Bland, published by Threshold Books in 1981 and distributed by Sotheby Parke Bernet. This hardback traces the company's history across the decades, illustrated throughout with black and white photographs of productions and dancers, including scenes from Swan Lake, Persephone and Grosse Fuge. The foreword is by Dame Ninette de Valois.
The black cover carries a gilt crest and red and white lettering, with a photograph of dancers in white tutus on the front and a further performance image on the back. The spine shows the same photographic design with the title and publisher names.
The cover shows some surface scuffing and light wear at the edges, with a mark visible on the lower corner of the back board. The text pages appear clean and bright in the sample shown, with photographs reproduced in good contrast. The page edges show some grey mottling consistent with the cover design rather than damage.
