The Work of The Birmingham Civic Society, compiled by William Haywood and published by The Birmingham Civic Society, covers the society's activities from June 1918 to June 1946. The title page is marked copyright by Act of 1911, and the text was printed by Silk & Terry Ltd. of Birmingham. The book is illustrated throughout with black and white photographs, including views of parks and civic schemes such as the bridges over the moat at Perry Hall Playing Fields and a report on the replanning of Aston Park.

The hardback boards are cloth-backed with paper sides, with a gilt emblem to the front cover and gilt lettering to the spine. There is a small reddish ink or paint mark to the front cover, and a small hole to the lower front board. The spine cloth shows wear consistent with handling and age. Internally the paper is lightly toned, with a blind-stamped emblem visible on one leaf.
