Railways and Railwaymen - Rosemary Manning
Rosemary Manning's Book of Railways and Railwaymen, published by Kestrel Books (Penguin Books Ltd) in 1977. A hardback anthology covering the history of railways and the people who worked on them, with chapters on navvies, tunnels and bridges, railwaymen, railway accidents, heroes and heroines, and railway crime, illustrated throughout with colour and black and white images drawn from period photographs and artwork.
The cover shows a railway guard with a green flag against a station scene, with further illustrations of locomotives on the back board. The spine carries the title and Kestrel Books imprint.
The boards show handling wear with some rubbing to the extremities and a crease visible near the base of the front cover. Internally the paper is clean and white with clear black print and good reproduction of the photographic plates sampled. The copyright page confirms the 1977 first publication and ISBN 0 7226 5351 4.
